On Two Problems Involving Partial Sums.

Abstract

The author considers two distributional problems involving partial sums of i.i.d. integer valued random variables. Section 1 discusses the problem of approximating the distribution of the total number of ties within columns of a random matrix arising from a random walk. Section 2 presents a problem involving the number of ties between two identically distributed integer valued random walks. (Modified author abstract)
