Annual Survey Report (7th) on the Air Weather Service Weather Modification Program (FY 1974).

Abstract

For the first time since AWS actively entered the field of weather modification, no new field projects were undertaken during FY 74. Three cold fog dissipation systems were used operationally (one each at Fairchild AFB, Elmendorf AFB, and Hahn AB). These cold fog dissipation activities assisted 169 aircraft movements which would otherwise have been cancelled, delayed, or diverted by cold fog. Additionally, AWS continued in its active pursuit of a warm fog dissipation system for use at a few select fog-plagued, high-traffic-density bases. Precipitation augmentation and severe storm mitigation received revived interest during FY 74 but no operations or field tests were carried out. (Modified author abstract)
