Test Results and Technology Development Report: HLH/ATC (Heavy Lift Helicopter/Advanced Technology Component) Transmission Overrunning Clutch

Abstract

This report presents the results of an evaluation test program to develop the optimum sprag engine/transmission clutch for use in the Heavy Lift Helicopter (HLH) drive system. The design operating conditions were 3,795 ft-lb of troque transmitted at 11,500 rpm. Three clutch configurations with differing design philosophies were first subjected to a preliminary evaluation.
