Portable Vapor Surveillance System

Abstract

A portable membrane separator-mass spectrometer vapor detection system has been developed. Components of the system are housed in two light weight aluminum suitcases. The system operates from commercial power lines and can be set up quickly and conveniently wherever 110 volt 60 Hz power is available. Internal operation is under microcomputer control with an operator's visual display showing computer processed data. The operator may select any of a number of modes and programs via switches which communicate with the computer. Although the microcomputer was developed specifically for this application, it is a true general purpose device with a full instruction set, direct memory addressing to 32K words and very extensive input-output capability. It thus can be applied with low cost to a variety of other applications.
