Design and Development Testing of Free Planet Transmission Concept

Abstract

This report presents the results of an experimental program to demonstrate and evaluate the Curtiss-Wright free planet concept for power transmission. The program consisted of designing a 500-horsepower speed reducer to operate at 8000 rpm input speed and 19.2425 reduction ratio. This design was procured and evaluated. The evaluation consisted of static and dynamic evaluation as well as 50 hours of endurance testing at rated operating conditions.
