Nondestructive Testing for Moisture Content in Foods by Neutron Gauging.

Abstract

The application of neutron gauging to test for moisture content in bulk powdered foods and in canned Army field rations is described. A small californium-252 capsule, of approximate output 10,000,000 neutrons per sec, was used as a source. A brief discussion is presented on the basic principles of neutron interactions as relevant to moisture measurement and some background material is included on radioisotopic neutron sources.
