The Preparation of Some New Polyfunctional Organic Azides. Part II.

Abstract

Improved procedures have been developed for the preparation of 3,3-diazido-2,4-dinitratopentane and 2,3-diazido-1,4-dinitratobutane. An attempt was made to synthesize 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexazido-1,3,5-trinitrato-cyclohexane from phloroglucinol by (1) Cu(OAc)2 - catalyzed hexabromination (2) displacement of bromines by azide (3) carbonyl reduction and (4) nitration. A liquid isomer (or mixture of isomers) of diazidodinitratobutane was prepared from butadieneidiepoxide by (1) reaction with aqueous sodium azide and (2) nitration with acetyl nitrate. Its properties are similar to those of 2,3-diazido-1,4-dinitratobutane. (Author)
