Charge Neutralization and Electron Scavenging in Irradiated Dielectric Liquids

Abstract

The Smoluchowski equation, which governs the motion of an isolated electron-ion pair undergoing mutual coulomb attraction and random walk in a dielectric medium, is modified to include electron scavenging. The solution is obtained numerically for values of time ranging over five orders of magnitude. The results are in accord with recent time-dependent conductivity measurements on n-hexane following radiation-induced ionization.
