Underwater Propagation of Sound Waves Excited by a Point Source Above the Surface

Abstract

The problem of obtaining first-order quantitative estimates of acoustic power coupled into regions near the ocean floor from sources located above the air-water interface is investigated. Of particular interest are ocean depths on the order of several kilometers, source-to-observation-point separations on the order of hundreds of kilometers, and acoustic source frequencies below 100 Hz.
