Standardization of Avionics Information Systems.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a study to select and recommend standardization concepts for Avionics Information Processing Systems for the 1980-1990 time periods. The results indicate that technology advances in the areas of digital electronics, large scale integrated circuits (LSI), and multiplexing support the thesis that avionic information processing hardware will become both highly reliable and very low in cost in the time periods being considered. This permits the avionic system designer to consider a highly distributed, dedicated digital system architecture which involves inefficient use of CPU time, memory, I/O buffers and redundancy to alleviate the growing cost, schedule and reliability problems in avionic systems software.
