How Do Your Climates Show: Let Us Count Some Ways.

Abstract

Some inconspicuous consequences of an organization's goals, practices and procedures on the climates created for employees are reviewed. First several potential impacts on climate and eventual employee behavior of a lack of fit between goals and means to obtaining the goals are explored, especially with reference to differences between product - and service-intensive industries. Then some implications the climates an organization creates for its employees are examined with respect to the attraction and retention of employees. Finally the kinds of organizational climates created for the reward and support of individual differences in ability and personality are discussed with reference to the predictability of employee performance.
