Psychometric Theory in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Abstract

The paper is intended to be a statement of current thinking regarding the basic core of psychometric concepts relevant for research and practice in industrial and organizational psychology. The developmental history of each relevant problem is described and arguments pertaining to the usefulness of alternative models are presented, leading into a discussion of alternative theories regarding sources of variation in observed scores. Validity is discussed as both a scientific and a practical concept. The final section deals with problems revolving around estimating reliability and validity parameters in the population.
