A Subsynoptic Update Model and Forecast System with Application to Aviation Weather.

Abstract

Research and development efforts aimed at improving short range forecasts of weather elements important for aviation interests are described. An objective forecasting system designed to supplement the twelve-hour cycle at The National Meteorological Center (NMC) was modified to give better short range numerical forecasts of sea-level pressure and precipitation. Also added was an analysis-advection scheme that directly provides short range estimates of aviation weather elements.
