Additional Text Processing for On-Line Retrieval (The RADCOL System). Volume 1.

Abstract

RADCOL is an information storage and retrieval system being developed for the Rome Air Development Center. The system automatically classifies tens of thousands of documents, according to their content alone. A searcher may retrieve documents from a remote terminal, interacting with the system in real time. This report describes the test data base, development of algorithms for generating stems from English words and for determining which stems are useful for discrimination between documents, new retrieval features, computation of correlations between stems, stem clustering, and some aspects of using a dynamic document collection.
