Experiments on an Airfoil with Oscillating Spoiler and Flap.

Abstract

At present little is known of the dynamics of a separating and reattaching flow field. This topic pertains to a range of aerodynamic problem areas such as control-surface-buzz, dynamic stalling of airfoils or wings, wing-rock and buffeting. An experimental program was performed on an airfoil model with movable fence-type spoiler and flap. Pressures at ten locations along the moded centerline, hinge-moment, spoiler height and flap motion were recorded on a tape recorder, reduced, and resolved into Fourier harmonic components.
