Behavior of Plasmoid Injected into a Rising Magnetic Field for Initiating Fusion Reactions.

Abstract

The report reviews the research program supported by the contract. Four broad areas were investigated as follows: The supersonic-subsonic flow transition and shock formation of a dense plasma stream injected longitudinally along a variable magnetic field, The multiple resonance excitation of a plasma column at the high frequency and low frequency resonances and the related ion temperature enhancement in the presence of a collisional thermalization mechanism; The computer simulation and modeling of the electrical breakdown of a gas, avalance and streamer formation and propagation including gas photoionization; and, The study of Drift Waves in toroidal geometry with various types of shear, and with trapped particles due to the variation of magnetic field along the field lines.
