Acoustic Delay Lines.

Abstract

The objective of the program is to develop the basic technology required for fabrication of low-loss, broadband acoustic delay lines at microwave frequencies. The approach used is to bond X-cut lithium niobate (LiNbO3) transducers to a (100) spinel substrate, followed by polishing and ion-beam milling to reduce the LiNbO3 transducers to the required half-wavelength thickness. For the highest frequencies, this thickness will be on the order of 2000A. During this program period, the authors have developed a technology for fabrication of multioctave LiNbO3/spinel delay lines for use at frequencies as high as X-band. (Modified author abstract)
