Minicomputers: A Review of Current Technology, Systems, and Applications,

Abstract

The past decade has seen an almost explosive growth in the minicomputer industry, and a resulting profusion of minicomputer systems. More than 50 manufacturers are marketing such devices and, currently there are well over 100 uniquely different minicomputer processors on the market, ranging in price from $1,000 to more than $20,000. The report concentrates on computers costing from $4,000 to $20,000 for a processor and 4K (4096 words) of memory. It deals primarily with processors employing a 16-bit word length, which is rapidly becoming a standard of the minicomputer industry. The report discusses the more significant characteristics found in today's minicomputers, then reviews leading manufacturers' products that are most representative of their product lines.
