Investigation of the Dynamic Response of Proportional Fluidic Amplifiers. Part 1. The Behaviour of an Oscillating Jet.

Abstract

As a first part of an investigation of the factors affecting the dynamic response of proportional fluidic amplifiers, the behaviour of an oscillating jet has been experimentally studies. Measurements of instantaneous velocity profiles of a jet oscillating between two side plates has been made, as well as of the trajectories and deflection of the centerline. Measurements of characteristic parameters of the longitudinal turbulence have also been made. The results were compared with the results obtained for an identical jet in stationary conditions. Analysis of the results allowed an estimate of the convection velocity for the jet oscillations, and the determination of a similarity parameter for the unsteady behaviour. All the measurements have been made using an analog synchronous sampling technique. (Author)
