Determination of Mass Ablation in Heat-Shielded Materials According to the Data of Measurements of the Deformation of Loaded Shells,

Abstract

A method is developed for determining mass ablation and the limits of the load-bearing layer of loaded shells subjected to erosion and thermal decomposition. The method is based on determining the loads on the shell and measuring the shell deformation using strain gauges placed on the outside surface. The results of an experimental check of the method using scale-model tests are conducted with glass-fiber reinforced plastic. Single-layer and double-layer shells are given. (Author)
