A Buoy-Mounted Meteorological Recording Package.

Abstract

The design and operation of a buoy-mounted meteorological sensing and recording package are described. The package is based on the Vector Averaging Current Meter (VACM) and includes sensors for wind speed and direction, water temperature, air temperature, solar radiation, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. Also covered are the performance of the package during the Joint Air Sea Interaction (JASIN) experiment and an analysis of the heat fluxes calculated from data from the meteorological package and from the three ships involved in the experiment.
