The N2, a New Level,

Abstract

The new N2 level is intended for second-order geometrical leveling with a mean-square error of no more than one mm per km of double run. The construction of the level, as well as the results of laboratory and field tests performed in 1969, are summarized. The mean-square accidental error per km of the course of second-order leveling amounted to 0.8 mm, and no defects at all were noted when the instrument was inspected and put into operation. The new level completely satisfies the technical requirements of All-Union (GOST) Standard 10528-69 and may be used for second-order leveling.
