Enhancement of Pulsed Xe Lamps in the 460-495 nm Bandwidth by Pulse Shaping.

Abstract

The irradiance produced by a pulsed long arc Xe lamp in capacitive and single mesh driving circuits was investigated in the 400-600 nm bandwidth, which includes the optical attenuation minimum of deep sea water. An improvement of 50% in light output (radiance) was observed within the 460-495 nm bandwidth with the lamp in an optimized single mesh driving circuit as compared to the lamp in a capacitive driving circuit. External triggering was used to discharge 8200 joules of initially stored energy for both driving circuits. (Author)
