The X-Ray Structure Determination of the 1:1 Charge Transfer Complex of Naphthalene and Tetrachlorophthalic Anhydride at 120K.

Abstract

The crystal structure of the weak charge transfer complex of 1:1 perdeuterated naphthalene and tetrachlorophthalic anhydride has been determined at 120K. The structure was solved with Patterson and Fourier techniques and refined by least squares. The component molecules are stacked alternately in infinite chains along the b axis. The accurate, low temperature, structural parameters obtained for naphthalene and tetrachlorophthalic anhydride in the complex are within experimental error identical to those observed in the pure materials.
