Electrolysis,

Abstract

Discussed are basic principles of electrolysis including electrode reactions, electrode potential of equilibrium. An explanation is made of oxidation reduction in terms of electrode potential, electrochemical polarization of electrodes due to change in chemical nature of the surface, over voltage of electrode reactions, and diffusion. Also covered were causes of voltage fall in electrolytes, structure of electrolyzer, peculiarities of electrolysis of water solutions of electrolytes, and peculiarities of electrolysis of molten substances.
