Low Speed Flow Visualization Using Holography and the Development of a Rapid Data Reduction System for Holographic Interferometry.

Abstract

Flow visualization of low speed flow has been obtained by the injection of a thin stream of gas with a refractive index which differs from that of the uniform flow in the wind tunnel. A frozen fringe hologram of the introduction of this gas indicates regions of fringe shift. A pathline is produced by connecting points of maximum fringe shift. A rapid means has been developed to handle data on fringe formation from a photograph of a reconstructed holographic interferogram. Data points are gathered using a digitizer and a mini-computer.
