Atomic and Molecular Physics with Emphasis on Atomic and Molecular Beams.

Abstract

The report summarizes the principal achievements of a research program in atomic and molecular physics. Spectroscopic studies of the cesium molecule and lifetime measurements of an electronic state of molecular hydrogen are summarized. In atomic physics, studies were made of the hyperfine structure of metastable hydrogen atoms, the two-photon decay of metastable hydrogenic atoms, and optical excitation of helium atoms with low-energy ions. A rotating square-wave polarizer was also developed. (Modified author abstract)
