Autocorrelation and Spectral Methods of Measuring Speed of Motion,

Abstract

In many fields of technology, there is a necessity of measuring the speed of motion without direct contact with the moving body. This problem is particularly important in those cases where the application of contact methods is impossible; such as the speed of hot rolled steel relative to the rolling mill. The speed of motion of this surface can be measured with great accuracy by means of contactless cross-correlation methods, which consist of determining the phase shift of signals received from the moving surface through two sensors placed at a fixed distance from each other. The report discusses this methodology.
