Development of a Specially Designed Manifold-Transfer Apparatus and its Accessories for Transfer of Biological Solutions within a Closed System. II.

Abstract

A manifold apparatus was engineered for transferring sterile biological solutions from vessels within a closed system. The essential feature of this device is the use of accessory outlet tubes fabricated from stainless steel for filling various receiving vessels. The manifold is a convenient method for transferring filtered solutions and tissue culture media to storage bottles and inoculating spinner culture flasks with cell inocula contained in appropriate volumes of fresh culture media. It is also useful for removal of medium and monodispersed cells from the culture flask in order to harvest cells as well as to change the medium and passage the cells. The device reduces the risk of contamination by eliminating manipulations in an open system exposed to biological and nonbiological contaminants. (Author)
