Study of Air Traffic Management Systems for the Short-Range (1974-1978) and Mid-Range (1979-1986) Time Frames. Volume II.

Abstract

The ATMS Study was conducted for the purpose of recommending an air traffic management system for the short- and mid-range time frames and of reassessing the degree of automation required for such a system during the mid-range time frame. Nine candidate systems were evaluated. Findings and conclusions were based on user requirements and doctrine, current Army airspace management policies, the high air defense threat, and the changing aviation tactics required to cope with this threat.
