MDSIM: A Socio-Economic Simulation of the State of Maryland and Washington, D. C.

Abstract

A system dynamics study examines the societal interactions between population, pollution, natural resources, capital investment, and food availability in the state of Maryland and in Washington, D.C. Equations expressing the interrelationships between these variables are stated, and other functions are presented and produced. The resulting model is used to forecast short and long term effects for almost any instituted policy by entering the computerized program and replacing specified constants and relationships. This facet suggests the logic of making a state model. (Modified author abstract)
