Investigation of Dynamic Stability of Trailers,

Abstract

Trailers with automobile-type front-wheel drive have a tendency to horizontal transverse wobble. Theoretical and experimental investigations indicated that critical speeds of trailer-trains, which were used as parameters of stability of straight-line motion, had a direct relationship to the angle of casters in steering mechanisms. The results also indicated that clearance in the couplings of the steering mechanism has an effect on the magnitude of transverse vibration.
