C-LAD - A Low-Cost Loran-C Assist Device: Volume I. Hardware.

Abstract

C-LAD, a low-cost Loran-C assist device, is a special-purpose digital computer designed to enhance the use of Loran-C on board ships. Without some form of data processing, the hyperbolic coordinate system of Loran-C is awkward to use; C-LAD provides the necessary data processing by computing range and bearing to a selected destination using hyperbolic Loran-C time difference coordinates as inputs. C-LAD should have wide application as a navigation aid for small ships because of its low cost. Volume I documents the C-LAD hardware and interfaces, Volume II describes the system software, and Volume III details the C-LAD operating procedure. (Author)
