Lead Telluride Photodiodes for Operation at 170K.

Abstract

This study was undertaken to establish feasibility for the use of epitaxial IV-VI photodiode arrays in thermoelectrically-cooled 3-5 micro imaging systems. The major emphasis has been on 170K performance because this corresponds to an NVL system goal. However, the measurements have covered the range 80-21OK, partly to permit evaluation of the detectors in somewhat modified systems and partly in an attempt to understand the temperature-dependence of their performance. In the second phase we have developed band-tailored detectors for extension of the 170K response to 5.0 micro have been developed.
