Tropical Cyclones of the Southwest Indian Ocean: Tracks and Synoptic Considerations.

Abstract

The purpose of the report is to provide the background in tropical cyclone evasion planning and procedures. The report is presented in two distinct sections. The first presents summaries of frequencies and tracks of tropical cyclones in the southwest Indian Ocean. The second section is an edited translation of 'Les Cyclones du Sud-Ouest de l'Ocean Indien'; a subjective appraisal of the synoptic characteristics which influence the formation and movement of these tropical cyclones.
