A Three-Dimensional Structural Model for a High Modulus Pan-Based Carbon Fiber.

Abstract

A new three-dimensional structural model is proposed for MODMOR I, meter length, high modulus PAN-based carbon fibers. The model depicts a macrostructure consisting of long- range crystalline graphitic material in the form of a circumferentially oriented outer shell connected to a central core by a honeycombed radial continuum. Within this continuum are radially oriented pockets of various sizes and shapes containing a graphitic phase. (Author, modified-PL)
