Analytical Procedures Used to Obtain and Evaluate the Eddy Viscosity and Mixing Length Extracted from Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer Data,

Abstract

Results of a study on the effect of freestream pressure gradient on the eddy viscosity and mixing length for incompressible equilibrium turbulent boundary layers were presented in a separate report. The present report describes in detail the analytical procedures used to obtain those results. A procedure is discussed for extracting shear stress, eddy viscosity, and mixing length distributions from experimental velocity profile data. Also a simple turbulent boundary layer calculation procedure is presented which was used to verify and to evaluate the data. (Modified author abstract)
