Accuracy of Homogeneous Nucleation Rates Determined in Supersonic Nozzles.

Abstract

Accurate homogeneous nucleation rate values have been obtained by studying the condensation of ethyl alcohol in a supersonic nozzle. The effects of data uncertainties have been made small by carefully developed experimental techniques, so that the calculated homogeneous nucleation rates are accurate to within one order of magnitude. On the other hand, various theoretical predictions for nucleation rates differ from each other by many orders of magnitude. Therefore, condensation data obtained from supersonic nozzle experiments can be very useful for judging the validity of different nucleation theories.
