A Study of Beam Couplers for Integrated Optics.
Abstract
The research program represents a theoretical investigation of generalized beam couplers for integrated-optics applications. Three distinct investigations were considered: (1) The scattering of a bounded beam by a planar structure whose properties vary along a longitudinal direction; (2) The practical realization of thin-film structures with desired variation of their properties along a longitudinal direction; and (3) The determination of the specific longitudinal variation required to produce a desired beam function.
