Defense Energy Information System: A Preliminary Analysis. Volume I. Conceptual Design.

Abstract

A survey was performed of the energy data needs of the Department of Defense to serve as the basis for the design of a Defense energy information system. Concerns and typical problems of DoD managers related to energy were identified and categorized in order to define types of data the information system would have to handle. Data deficiencies and limitations of existing DoD information systems were described. Using ARPA developed advanced information system technology a concept was designed which would be capable of integrating the data bases into a central computerized data structure that could be accessed remotely via terminals on the ARPA network. A stepwise program for modular implementation of the concept was recommended including tests and user trials. (Author)
