Evaluation of Expanded Role of the Physical Therapist in Screening Musculoskeletal Disorders: Follow-up Questionnaire.

Abstract

The objective of the investigation was to better assess the degree of overall patient satisfaction with and acceptance of the physical therapist as a primary evaluator for patients presenting with musculoskeletal disorders. A one page anonymous questionnaire was mailed to the 995 new back patients who had previously been evaluated by the physical therapist. Of these, 235 were completed and returned, and these served as the study sample. The results obtained showed that 64 percent were satisfied and 27 percent were dissatisfied with the care they had received with 9 percent rendering no opinion. In addition, 52 percent were satisfied, and 34 percent were dissatisfied with the results of the care they received while 13 percent felt their condition to be worse, 36 percent to be unchanged, 37 percent to be improved, and 15 percent to be recovered.
