Wave Interactions in Lossy Periodic Media.

Abstract

The first part of the report presents a general analysis of parametric effects in lossy media. The main effect of the loss is to relax the usual phase matching condition for parametric interaction. In the lossy case the corresponding response condition depends primarily on the attenuation factor of the most strongly damped mode. The second part of the report discusses applications of the parametric principles for amplification of surface carrier waves in semiconductors. (Modified author abstract)
