Radiation Spectrum of an Electric Ionization CO2 Laser (Spektr Izlucheniya Elektroionizatsionnogo CO2-Lazera),

Abstract

A method of developing a molecular laser tunable in a broad part of the spectrum has been previously described. The method is based on the possibility of exciting vibrational-rotational transitions of the anharmonic molecule at pressures sufficient for smooth generation frequency retuning between rotational lines of the molecule that have overlapped because of collision broadening. This method became technically feasible with the appearance of electric ionization lasers whose working mixture pressure can be tens of atmospheres. The present work investigates the radiation spectrum of an electric ionization CO2 laser with working mixture pressures to 8 atm and with a wide variation in the percentage makeup of the working mixture (CO2 + N2). Sections are included on tunable lasers collision broadening and experimental results.
