Entropy Coded Differential Pulse Code Modulation Systems for Television.
Abstract
Two basic types of communication systems are presently available for information transmission: analog systems and digital systems. The analog system has the handicap that the channel adds varying amounts of random noise to the signal being transmitted. This limitation can be overcome in digital transmission systems. A digital system does not have any basic distance limitation if a reasonable signal to noise ratio is maintained. This can be accomplished through the use of regenerative repeaters. The advantage of pulse code modulation transmission have been studied by Oliver, Pierce and Shannon.
