Development of a Three Dimensional Stress Gage for Propellant Grains.

Abstract

This report covers the preliminary investigations into the techniques for manufacturing, calibrating and testing devices for measuring the six stress components in a solid propellant grain. The basic design work led to two alternative but similar 3D gages which were built by Konigsberg Instruments and tested by HL and A. The results of these tests are described and recommendations made to AFRPL concerning the additional effort to be completed under the contract are given. (Author)
