Guide for Observing the Environment with Satellite Infrared Imagery,

Abstract

This guide provides background material on Direct Readout Infrared (DRIR) sensing from meteorological satellites, and on the application of DRIR data in analysis and forecasting. A series of case studies is presented to illustrate the discussion and to serve as a ready reference for use by the field forecaster. The material is intended primarily for use in providing local, tactical weather support. (Author)
