Hydrodynamic Drag Measurements on SWATH Ship Components.

Abstract

Experimental results are reported for hydrodynamic drag measurements on small waterplane area twin hull (SWATH) ship components. Measurements are made for parabolic struts alone, in tandem, and in various combinations with the cylindrical hulls. Interference effects between components are deduced from these data and compared with theoretical predictions. Two SWATH models were tested, both without fins and fully appended while restrained in pitch and heave. Added drag caused by fins required to counter the heave force and trim moment was calculated theoretically.
