Calculation of the Absorption of X-Ray Radiation in the Earth's Atmosphere,

Abstract

Measuring bremsstrahlung in the stratosphere is one of the methods of studying the electron flows responsible for the majority of geomagnetic disturbances at high latitudes. However, the interpretation of stratospheric measurements involves a number of difficulties which appear when scaling the recorded x-ray radiation to an electron flow. The scaling procedure in accordance with the physical sense of the process consists of two stages: (1) calculation of the initial flow and spectrum of photons at the generation level with respect to the flow at the detection level; (2) calculation of electron flow with respect to the flow of bremsstrahlung photons. In the present work the authors examined the first stages, i.e., calculation of the passage of x-ray radiation through the upper layers of the atmosphere.
