Automatic Mathematic Analysis of the Human EEG in Focal Lesions of the Brain,

Abstract

In connection with the adoption of mathematics in all branches of knowledge, and with the development of computer technology, in recent years the interest of electrophysiologists in methods of automatically analyzing the EEG has increased. Visual analysis of the EEG and measurements made by means of calipers and rulers have proven inadequate for revealing the information which is carried by the complex picture of the brain's biopotentials. Mathematical analysis of the electroencephalogram makes it possible to obtain fuller information on the functional condition of the brain, deepens the understanding of its activity, expands the capacities of diagnosis and makes it possible to set forward new tasks in studying the activity of the brain.
