General Purpose Multiplex System.

Abstract

A flexible, general-purpose multiplex system was synthesized for Naval aircraft. The system, called GPMS (General Purpose Multiplex System), features distributed message control, asynchronous TDM (Time Division Multiplex), and multiple buses with adaptive no-single-point-of-failure bus access governed by separate cable control units operated in a polled-contention mode. A procurement specification was prepared for GPMS, and an additional specification was generated for standard serial, digital interfaces. Industry proposals for the design of the GPMS experimental model were critiqued in detail and technically evaluated. Technical comparisons of GPMS with MIL-STD-1553 (USAF) and AFAL-TR-73-133 were provided. A work statement defining the requirements for computer simulation of GPMS was prepared. (Author)
